Lecturer Positions in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology

The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of full-time or part-time, temporary non-tenure track Lecturer positions to teach MCB courses as the need arises. Screening of applicants begins immediately and will continue as needed. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one calendar year, beginning with the Spring 2017 semester. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of MCB. Vacancies may arise during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Teaching Responsibilities

We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small, medium and large size lecture, seminar and/or laboratory courses in the subject areas listed below:

  • Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology
  • Cell & Developmental Biology
  • Genetics, Genomics and Development
  • Immunology and Pathogenesis
  • Neurobiology

General Duties

In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), maintaining a course website, and using a learning management system( e.g. bCourses at UC Berkeley, Canvas, etc.).

Minimum Basic Qualifications (by the time of application):

Laboratory Courses: A Master's degree or equivalent degree in one of the life sciences is required by the time of application. Completion of all Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) requirements except dissertation in a biological field is also satisfactory.

Lecture Courses: A Ph.D. degree or equivalent degree in one of the life sciences is required to teach a lecture course by the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications (by start date):

Documented experience in teaching one of the biological sciences at the college level.

Salary

Minimum annual full-time salary rate of $54,737. Salary to be commensurate with experience. Some credit given to prior college-level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer session teaching).
